How to setup URL Forwarding

1. Login to the Domain Management Tool.

2. Enter your domain name (without the www) and your password. Your password was sent to you in an email when you registered. If you do not have this password, contact us.

3. Scroll down until you see the “Hosts” section.

  • The default setup of your domain name is configured like the example above. It is pointed to our parking page which allows your visitors to see your “parking page” using either yourdomain.com ("@" hostname) or www.yourdomain.com ("www" hostname)..
  • When you are ready to point your domain to your web site, you must insert the URL/Web address or IP address of your web site into the Address box of the "@" hostname and the “www” hostname:

4. If you want to forward your domain name to a URL follow either of the examples below:

  • For standard URL Forwarding(without cloaking) use this example.
  • Under the “Address” section, next to hostname www enter the FULL URL you want to forward your domain name to. For example: http://members.myisp.com/jonesfamily/
  • Under “Record Type” choose “URL Redirect” from the pull down menu.
  • Repeat this step for the hostname @
  • Repeat this step for any additional host names IF you have created them
  • For Cloaked URL Forwarding(aka, URL FRAME) use this example:
  • Under the “Address” section, next to hostname www enter the FULL URL you want to forward your domain name to. For example: http://members.myisp.com/jonesfamily/
  • Under “Record Type” choose “URL Frame” from the pull down menu.
  • Repeat this step for the hostname @
  • Repeat this step for any additional host names IF you have created them

5. Click on the “Modify” button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

  • If you would like to forward your domain name to an IP address, follow the example below.
  • Under the “Address” section, next to hostname www enter the IP address you want to forward your domain name to. For example: 192.168.1.1
  • Under “Record Type” choose “A (Address)” from the pull down menu. (It should be already set to this as default)
  • Repeat this step for the hostname @
  • Repeat this step for any additional host names IF you have created them

Additional Frequent Questions:

  • How do I create more than 8 host names if there are only 8 lines?

With our system you can have up to 100 hosts!

When you first set up your host names, you will notice there are only 6 empty rows in the “Hosts” section. This is designed to conserve space. If you run out of lines, submit the form by clicking the “Modify” button and the system will automatically create additional empty rows for more host names.

  • Why is the URL forward I created not working?

Although it normally only takes a couple of hours for the forwarding to take effect, it can take up to 24 hours. If it is still not working after a full 24 hours, contact us.

Common Mistakes:

  • Wrong URL or IP address - Any typo in the IP or URL will cause your forward not to work. Also test the IP address or URL to make sure they are working.
  • Wrong Record Type - be sure you are using the correct Record Type for the type of redirection you are setting up. For example, if you are trying  to forward to a URL and have “A (Address)” chosen as the “record type” it will not work.
